What Made Android the People's Choice?

All these years, Symbian has been the people's favorite when it comes to mobile operating system. Symbian's reign in the mobile world has been taken over by Android and this is supported by numerous reasons. Android has advantages over other mobile OS and some of the main reasons that sidelined Android from other mobile OS have been listed below.

Efficient Mobile Operating System

Many multitasking phones are notorious of being inefficient in many ways. In short, these phones are not optimized according to their features. These inefficiencies can be in the form of fast power drain, slow processing, non-responding applications, phone hanging now and then, etc. and you would not like these things happening while you are in the middle of your work. This is not in the case of Android powered phones. Android is also preferred by mobile application developers of any software development company for the same reason.

Incredibly Fast Web Browsing

What do one looks for while browsing the internet? First thing that comes in mind is the connection speed. If the connection speed is slow, there is nothing more frustrating. Most mobile phones offer inadequate browsing features. You may have experienced that the internet is too slow, web pages failed to load, the type of page is not supported and the most frustrating of all is the incompatibility of flash contents. There is nothing we can do with such phones when we look for these features. But most Android phones come with features that support Flash and problems as mentioned above will never be a threat to its users. It is because of the Android platform that comes with Flash content support which will allow users to browse the web with incredible speed.

Applications

When it comes to applications, each mobile operating system has its own vendors and types of application. Android Market however has the highest number of applications meant for Android powered handheld devices. Recently, it is also said that the market registered a landmark with more than 10 billion downloads, a feat that no other mobile OS could ever achieve. This by itself shows that this OS is indeed the people's choice. Applications are mostly cross-compatible between Android phones and there are more numbers of Android application developers than other mobile application developers. There is also a steep rise in the number of software and web application development companies that already took up developing Android applications. Therefore, when it comes to applications, there will be no such problems of incompatibility and unavailability.

As you can see, there are reasons why this particular mobile OS has dominated the mobile market. Inefficiency is no more a question, quality web browsing is in your hands and when it comes to applications, there are thousands you can choose from. These advantages made Android mobile OS the most preferred.

Android App Development Heats Up

The recession hasn't been hard on everyone. There is one group of professionals who have barely noticed the economic slowdown. Android Application Developers have been extremely busy the past year creating new and innovative applications for phones that use the Android operating system. These developers have used this recession as a time for innovation. Industry reports state that 18 phones will be coming out within 6 months that utilize the Android operating system. The first phone that introduced the Android system is the T-Mobile G1. Google realized that there was potential at this point. This is all in an effort by Google to expand its reach of the mobile market share against its arch rival Apple.

For those of you who have never stepped outside of your house, Apple introduced the iPhone 3 2 years ago that utilized an open platform that allows private developers to make, sell and profit from applications. This is done on an open marketplace that has become somewhat of industry within itself. Google's goal is to find new methods to convince application developers to develop products for the Android system instead of Apple's operating system.

To put the rivalry in perspective, Android offers more than 10,000 applications. Apple offers over 100,000 applications, which is mirrored with Apple's higher iPhone sales. With Christmas right around the corner, we can expect an increase in application sales as well as an increase in smart phone sales.

Android application developers are being assisted with another highly anticipated phone release. Not officially called the "Google Phone", the Nexus One is made by HTC.

The phone will run Android version 2.1. According to the WSJ, "Google designed virtually the entire software experience behind the phone, from the applications that run on it to the look and feel of each screen. Google appears to want to throw its brand behind a device more directly, designing a phone without working with the wireless carriers that often dictate what features they allow on their networks."

The release date of the Nexus seems to be one thing that is still yet to be known. ABC News is reporting that the Nexus One will be made available through T-Mobile as early as January 5th which is right around the corner. Some speculate that the pricing could be around $199.

However, the Nexus will not be the only phone coming out in 2010. Analyst Ben Wood of CCS Insight stepped out on a limb and predicted that handset manufacturers will produce a cornucopia of Android handsets in 2010. According to his estimates, there will be at least fifty new models released in 2010 alone.
